Simichrome to Shine & Protect the Finish of a Hopto 50s era Zippo Lighter

People tend to look for and use metal polish after an item has gone way beyond its capability to bring it back to its former good looks. In this post we are showing you a 1950s era Zippo lighter for our demo piece. It’s finish is both  brushed and polished. Like many of the Zippo lighters they were sold with advertising on them as a give away premium to prospective buyers. This one is marked Warner &  Swasey Hopto. They were grand excavating machines that I first saw when the Mass Turnpike was built through Westfield.

By using just a very small dab of Simichrome polish on a soft cloth with gentle rubbing action,  you not only clean it but leave a protective coating that will retard any future tarnish. Flip the cloth as you rub over the yellow and black lettering. You don’t want to be too aggressive on the painted lettering as you could polish through it. Don’t be deceived, just because there is light protecting film left on the surface of the metal, it is not slippery, tacky nor will it leave finger prints. It will just make it and keep it looking nice longer. A periodic buff with a soft cloth will keep it looking new. See the picture for yourself.

If you would like to buy a tube or two of Simichrome, please buy it from our recommend online supplier Simichrome.com
